Gemini Exploration is a mining exploration and development company formed to acquire, develop, and exploit natural resource properties focusing primarily on the rich yet highly underdeveloped gold deposits of Colombia.
Historically one of the largest gold producing countries in the world, Colombia's vast mineral potential has remained virtually unexplored using modern exploration and mining techniques. The Dept of Antioquia region alone produces over 1,000,000 ounces of gold per year currently, and most of it is produced from antiquated production equipment and facilities. Driven by a new era of political and economic stability and an investment friendly mining code, Colombia has emerged as one of the resource sector's most attractive new mining frontiers.
Gemini has important mineral resources that remained largely untapped due to that country's previously unfavorable investment climate. However, things have changed in recent years; the Colombian economy is booming. This country reported Latin America's fastest GDP growth in 2006. Colombia has an educated, affordable work force; good infrastructure; and favorable regulatory environment for mining. The 2001 Mining Act, which was modeled after Canadian mining legislation, helped clarify ownership and mining rights, provided additional protection for foreign investors and encouraged environmentally friendly mining practices.
